Editorial Reviews:

These days England's not so pleasant for immigrants. Not with Russian gangster-wannabes like Vulk, who's taken a shine to Irina and thinks kidnapping is a wooing strategy. And so Andriy - who really doesn't fancy Irina, honest - must set off in search of that girl he's not in love with.

Customer Rating: Summary: The green green grass of Sheffield Comment: This is a story which grabs your attention from the beginning and holds it even when the plot becomes shaky and characters disappear, never to be heard of again. Marina Lewycka has written a book which deals with the exploitation of foreign workers, their dire living conditions, lack of employment security and vulnerability to the greed and cruelty of the "mobilphon" entrepreneurs. Able to sketch her characters with a few brushstrokes and to find rays of humour in even the darkest situations, the weaknesses of this book can be forgiven as we flinch at the horror of the chicken farm, warm to the thoughts of DOG and urge on the love affair of Irina and Andriy as they make their way steadfastly to the Shangri-La of Sheffield.
Customer Rating: Summary: Irritating book Comment: I agree with some other reviewers who said they couldn't wait to finish this book - for all the wrong reasons ! Very disappointing, tedious & irritating to read.
Customer Rating: Summary: Joyous, funny, sad, delightful Comment: I love this book. It is full of humour and humanity. The darker themes make their point but in the end love and the sheer wonder of life prevail. And the dog is brilliant - a stroke of genius that brings the whole story together.
Customer Rating: Summary: Two Caravans Comment: What an excellent read: Lyrical, funny, romantic, shocking and very serious all at the same time...
Unfortunately, I ordered Strawberry Fields later on, thinking it was a sequel or a prequel, to find it is the American version .. same but with funny spelling! Sillly me. AMAZON YOU REALLY SHOULD ADVISE PURCHASERS. NAUGHTY!
Customer Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but not wonderful Comment: Having thoroughly enjoyed a short history of tractors I was looking forward to reading two caravans.
This is a well written book, with believable characterisation and an interesting story.
However as a story it never seems to get anywhere, so yes this is an enjoyable read on a wet Sunday, but it is not a book you will long to read time and time again.
Not good, not bad, just OK
