Customer Rating: Summary: Lovely bit of nostalgia Comment: My 87 year old father in law got this book for Christmas and loved it. Nothing much in that you might say, but this man is notoriously hard to please and has been caravanning for most of his life; for him to say he thoroughly enjoyed the book is akin to it winning the booker prize. I also enjoyed the brownie points it earned me.
If you like caravans or are just interested in the history of them then this book is definitely worth a read. If you have someone who loves caravanning, especially the history of it then this is definitely the book for them.
Customer Rating: Summary: Charming evocation of another age Comment: Read this and be transported back to another age when people delighted in simple pleasures and were actually nice to each other. This book is not just for caravanners. It is life affirming.
Customer Rating: Summary: A caravan Holiday in 1932>A trip down memory lane on two wheels Comment: This is a book for all those who have been on a holiday towing a caravan, or even those that have holidayed in a static one. It brings back all those things one has to remember to take etc. All the little lists that are made of the neccesary things to take and the jobs to do before the big day arrives when you can actually move off. I love all the sketches...what a talented man. Little book, but BIG in nostalgia! Great read
Customer Rating: Summary: The past is a different country Comment: What a delightful diary of a family holiday during the inter-war years. The book follows a couple holidaying with two friends in a caravan and is based on a diary kept by one of them, who was an artist. His illustrations are delightful and the picture of life on a journey to the west of England, long before the arrival of the motorway, provides a real insight to a time when the pace of life was so much slower than today; right down to the details of their budget!
Customer Rating: Summary: Too much padding Comment: A charming little book but it seems to have been padded out with extracts from old Caravan Club magazine articles and adverts. Without padding it would have been a very lean publication indeed. The illustrations were delightful.
